Back to Sundays at Vic's

When Amy Biondo was four years old, she wrote in a Dr. Seuss book that she wanted to be a singer when she grew up. And that’s what happened.  Amy first connected with music performance in the musical theater scene in Pennsylvania, where she grew up, and also danced in a modern dance company in Davis, California. But eventually jazz came knocking and it's been a mad, mad love affair ever since!

Delving headfirst into the American jazz tradition ignited a passionate curiosity about many other different musical styles, leading Amy to study Bossa Nova, French jazz classics, gypsy jazz, Mexican folk songs, the Afro-Cuban tradition, bluegrass, and classic and contemporary pop/rock. While she's given up singing show tunes, she has been known to occasionally throw in a tap dance after the bass solo, for old time's sake. She's also currently addicted to singing jazz and bluegrass renditions of Raffi's "Bananaphone."

Amy has studied voice, music theory, and contemplative music performance with many fabulous and inspiring teachers, including Art Lande, Ethie Friend, Mark Miller (all of Naropa University), Donna Wickham (Denver University) and Keith MacDonald. But she's found that the best training of all has been finding ways to fall in love with the world again and again, and to let the beauty of this joy and heartbreak touch others through the music.

In addition to Sundays at Vic’s, Amy sings in the bands Baro Swing (gypsy jazz), The Ricardo Peña Quartet (Latin), and Milestone (rock and Latin rock), and also freelances with various characters around town.  You can find out more about Amy by checking out her website at www.myspace.com/amybiondo.
